How to register a manually installed collector in ARM

As the communication security was enhanced in ARM 2024.3 and later, the manual collector installation will need an Init-Code to be entered so that the collector will successfully connects with the ARM Server.

The following is only needed if you are installing the collector manually via the ARM setup file. If you use the PUSH installation of a collector from the ARM Server or you are performing an update, then you don't need the following steps; they will be done automatically.

• Run the ARM setup file as an administrator and choose 'Advanced installation' and then 'Custom'
• Select only the 'Collector' feature and the 'FS Logga', if you need it.
• Note: If you are upgrading a previous version of ARM, you won't see any options; the installation will be recognized as an upgrade.
• Follow the on-screen instructions.
• At the last step, you will see a prompt like the following.

• Please enter the related ARM Server FQDN of your environment and confirm by pressing the enter key for the default ARM port (55555), or enter the port you have configured if you have a custom one.
• You need to generate the certificate Init-Code in the ARM Web client under 'Connection security', as shown below. Then, copy and paste the code generated where it is required, as shown above. You will need to login to the Web Console as an Admin level ARM user.
• If you miss the above prompt during the collector installation you can run it again by executing the ARMcollectorconfigurator.exe program found in C:\Program Files\SolarWinds\ARM\bin on the collector machine, as a local administrator.

• After doing the above, you can add the new collector's FQDN in the collector's list in ARM Configuration > Collectors if needed.
• The collector should now be connected and ready to be used.
