How to load the Rich client settings automatically in ARM

This article contains a guide on how to load the Rich client settings automatically for the different users logging in in the machines on the network.

Overview

This can be needed in the following scenarios.
  • The users access the ARM Rich client via a Share as explained here and an update is done on the ARM Server. In this case the Rich client settings like the FQDN of the ARM Server or Language preferences will be reset to the default one.
  • The users access the ARM Rich client from a thin client or a Citrix platform where the profiles of the users are deleted after logging out. In this case also the Rich client settings will be lost.

  • Please replace the code of the app8man.exe.config found in C:\Program Files\SolarWinds\ARM\bin on the ARM Server with the code found below. Please customize the highlighted sections in red.

  • Please restart the ARM-Service on the ARM Server after doing the above.
  • Please delete the folder with the new version of ARM in the name, in the following two locations.
  • %AppData%\SolarWinds_Worldwide,_LLC\app8Man.exe_StrongName_h5e5wk0tyyg0cjktvnkyyn53pk44llqy\
  • Please do the same for the 'Local' folder as with the 'Roaming'.
  • This has to be done again after an ARM Server update because the file will get overwritten with the standard one.
