How to create an alert for physical memory RAM depletion

This article explains how to create an alert that triggers when the RAM on a node exceeds a certain number or percentage of use (such as 90%).

Overview

Sometimes in Orion Memory Can be viewed as a Volume.  And is necessary to alert on the Volume instead of Memory.

Resolution

  1. Log in to the Orion Web Console. 
  2. Click Settings > All Settings.
  3. Under Alerts and Reports, click Manage Alerts.
  4. Click Add New Alert.
  5. Complete the Properties window, and click Next. 
  6. In the Trigger Condition page, complete the following steps:
    1. Click the "I want to alert on" drop-down menu and select VOLUME.
      Under The scope of alert, select All objects in my environment.

  1. Under the Actual trigger condition, click the drop-down menu and select All child conditions must be satisfied (AND).

  1. Create two child conditions:
  • Node + Memory Used + Is greater than or equal to + [Any number]
  • Volume + Volume Type + Is equal to + RAM
                            OR
  • Node + Percent Memory Used + Is greater than or equal to + 90%
  • Volume + Volume Type + Is equal to + RAM
  1. (Optional) Add other conditions if applicable. For example, if you want to generate RAM depletion alerts for Windows nodes, add: Node + Vendor + Contains + Windows
  2. Click Next.
7. Complete the wizard.
