Please note the behavior of HTTP/HTTPS monitors in Server & Application Monitor.
  • The agent managed nodes will be attempting to reach the website from the node where the agent is installed
  • Non-agent managed nodes will be attempting to reach the website from the Orion polling server (this applies to external, ICMP, SNMP, and WMI managed nodes).

Resolution

To create a HTTP/HTTPS monitor, log into the SolarWinds web console.
  1. Go to Settings > All Settings > SAM Settings > Create New Template.
  2. Name the new template.
  3. Add a new component to the template.
  4. Choose the HTTP or HTTPS monitor in the popup window depending on the type of website.
  5. Override the website URL if the node's IP address does not resolve to the name of the website. This is the default setting (https://${IP}:${PORT}/).
Assign the new template to the node.
  1. Settings > All Settings > SAM Settings > Manage Templates.
  2. Search for the created template name.
  3. Select the template and click 'Assign to node', and follow the wizard to assign the template.
  4. Choosing credentials for the template does not matter. You may choose to inherit from the node.
  5. Submit the template assignment.
