How to Monitor SUSE Linux (ppc64le) on PowerPC in the SolarWinds Platform

The SolarWinds Platform Agent is designed to support x86 and x64 Linux architectures only. Systems running ppc64le (PowerPC Little Endian) are not supported by the Platform agent.

Overview

This article explains how to monitor SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) 15 SP6 running on PowerPC (ppc64le) architecture using the SolarWinds Platform.
Since the SolarWinds Agent does not support Linux on PowerPC (ppc64le), enabling SNMP (v2c or v3) on the SUSE system and adding the node as an SNMP-enabled device in SolarWinds allows you to still collect essential system metrics, such as CPU load, memory usage, and network statistics.

  1. Enable SNMP service on SUSE Linux (ppc64le):
    You can use either SNMPv2 or SNMPv3 depending on your security requirements.

       2. Add the Node in SolarWinds:

    • Open the SolarWinds Platform Web Console.

    • Navigate to Settings > Manage Nodes > Add Node.

    • Select SNMP as the polling method.

    • Enter the device IP address and SNMP credentials.

    • Click Test to verify communication, then Add Node.

Optionally, Configure UNDP to add custom OIDs for application or hardware-specific metrics.

Additional Information

  • AIX is the only PowerPC-based OS officially supported by the SolarWinds Platform Agent.

  • This limitation is not unique to SUSE.  It also applies to other Linux distributions such as Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and CentOS running on PowerPC-based architectures.
