How to Deactivate and activate the Kiwi Syslog license for migration

This article describes how to move the Kiwi Syslog license during server migration.

Overview

To move Kiwi Syslog Server to a new machine, you will first need to deactivate license from the originating server in order to be used on the new server.
To do this without contacting SolarWinds Customer Service, the Kiwi Syslog server must be under active maintenance.

Resolution

 Deactivate the License
  1. Log in to the computer where Kiwi Syslog is installed.
  2. Start the License Manager in the Kiwi Syslog (C:\Program Files (x86)\Syslogd) program folder.
  3. Select Kiwi Syslog, and click Deactivate.
  4. Complete the Deactivation wizard, and save the deactivation file.
  5. Log in to the SolarWinds Customer Portal, and go to the License Management page.
  6. Select your product instance, and click Deactivate License Manually.
  7. In the Manage License Deactivation page, locate the deactivation file you created in License Manager, and click Upload.
  8. The deactivated licenses are now available to activate on a new computer.
  9. The new License Manager tool has offline deactivation with a created file that can be uploaded to the Customer Portal.

Re-activate license
  1. Log in to the computer where you want to install your products, and then start the installation.
  2. When asked to specify your licenses, provide your information.
  3. The license you deactivated earlier is assigned to the new installation.
