Overview

The Orion Platform uses either ICMP (default) or SNMP  to poll devices for status, average response time, and packet loss percentage. This will explain why it takes 5 minutes before the node changes its status to down.

Resolution

The Orion Platform polls every 120 seconds.

  • If there is no reply, the status is WARNING and Fast Polling occurs every 10 sec for 120 seconds.
  • If there is still no reply after those 12 polls, the status is DOWN.

This is why it takes 5 minutes to show a node as down.
