Overview

Sometimes we run into issues when running the Orion config wizard during an upgrade or migration, where we do not remember or note the Orion DB username or password, or may be adding a new Additional Polling Engine.

Cause

  • Forgot to note down or the credentials aren't known to new to SolarWinds admins

Resolution

You can only find the Username that was / is used to connect to Orion DB.

  1. Connect to the SolarWinds server,
  2. Navigate to the SolarWinds install folder. By default, this is at C:\Program Files\SolarWinds\Orion.
  3. Open the SWNetperfmon.db file with a text editor. Please note you may need to first open the text editor as admin to open the file.
  4. Find "user id" and "Encrypted.Password" in the file to identify the credentials used to connect to the database.
