How Rediscovery Works in the SolarWinds Platform
This article explains how Rediscovery works in the SolarWinds Platform web console.

Overview
The concept behind Rediscovery is to poll only device data that is not prone to frequent changes (hence the default 30 mins interval between rediscovery polls). Examples of such data are Vendor, System Name, or MAC/IP addresses. In addition, Rediscovery is used to run remapping for all interfaces/volumes to get updated interface/volume indexes.
It's worth noting that Rediscovery of Parent Entity also automatically initiates rediscovery of its child objects (e.g. rediscovering a Node also rediscovers its Volumes and Interfaces).

Resolution
-Rediscovery will update information populated into the Node Details section if this has changed in the SNMP configuration on the node or DNS changes around the node name when doing a look up against the IP. This will also force a Topology rediscover if you select Layer2/Layer3 resources when adding the node to the SolarWinds Platform, and update changes to volumes or interfaces if they are changed after the initial addition of the node.
- 30 minutes is the default interval.
These are the affected tables and columns when rediscovering:

Vendor, VendorIcon, MachineType, IOSImage, IOSVersion are not affected for UCS and VIM nodes |
