Resolution

Upon node discovery, the software attempts to poll the Sysname from the device and it resolves the IP address to find the DNS. By design, Orion prefers to fill in the Caption field with the Sysname if it is able to poll that from the device. If it cannot poll it from the device, it fills the Caption field in with the DNS.

This only works when the device is added into Orion, by design, the product will not update the Caption field with new information as we do not want to erase custom information that the user has put in there.

And if you have any scheduled Node discovery jobs in Orion, the changes(upper case) made to the SysName, DNSName and Hostname columns in Nodes(view) and NodesData will be overwritten when next discovery job runs.
