After Windows Updates, hyper V Machines cannot poll,  
Under Hyper-V Host Details you will see the message "There are no valid credentials configured"

Cause

  • Microsoft Hardened DCOM Security due to a Discovered vulnerability, this affects VMAN WMI  polling
 
  • You will see the following Error in the windows System Event logs on Hyper v server (confirmed) Source DistributedCOM.
The server-side authentication level policy does not allow the user MADISON\Administrator SID (S-1-5-21-280569360-932938740-725493889-500) from address 192.168.1.85 to activate DCOM server. Please raise the activation authentication level at least to RPC_C_AUTHN_LEVEL_PKT_INTEGRITY in client application.

 

 

Resolution

  • Install  Orion Platform 2020.2.6 Hotfix 5 which has resolved this issue.
  • Ensure that the Orion Server and Hyer V server/s are fully up to date with the latest Windows patches.
