Overview

This article provides brief information and steps to resolve the following error:

GetWebResponse failed. The remote server returned an error: (401) Unauthorized.

The Appinsight for IIS's HTTP Bindings Monitor and/or HTTPS Bindings Monitor attempts to monitor the ability to connect to the website using its binding information.

Cause

The issue is caused when the web site requires login information but the HTTP Binding Monitor and/or HTTPS Binding Monitor do not have any login information.

Resolution

There are two methods to resolve the issue:

If all websites require the same login information:

  1. Open the Appinsight for IIS Details page.
  2. Click Edit Application Monitor on the top-right of the page.
  3. Open the HTTP Bindings Monitor and/or HTTPS Bindings Monitor sections.
  4. Change the Credential from <Inherit Windows Credential from Node> to the appropriate credential.
  5. Click Submit.
  6. Click Poll Now.

If each website requires different login information:

  1. Open the Appinsight for IIS Details page.
  2. Click the Site in question, within the "Sites" Web Resource.
  3. Click the "Edit Thresholds" link at the top-right of the page.
  4. Open the "HTTP Bindings Monitor" and/or "HTTPS Bindings Monitor" sections.
  5. Change the Credential from <Inherit Windows Credential from Node> to the desired credential.
  6. Click "Submit".
  7. Repeat steps 2 - 7 for every site that requires authentication.
  8. Click "Poll Now" from the Applications details page.

To add credential(s):

  1. Go to Settings > SAM Settings > Credentials Library.
  2. Click Add New Credential.
  3. Enter credentials.
