Overview
When DPA is launched on Amazon Web Services (AWS), the following errors indicate that DPA cannot get information from the AWS Marketplace Metering Service, which prevents DPA from monitoring:
-
For an existing deployment that has been monitoring instances, monitoring stops and you see the following message:
DPA can't connect to the AWS Marketplace Metering Service and has stopped monitoring.
-
For an AWS image being started for the first time after repository creation, you see the following message:
DPA cannot start because the image validation failed.
The cloud.log includes messages such as:
Failed to load the product code.

Cause
AWS uses their instance metadata service (IMDS) to send metering and other data to DPA. AWS recently introduced IMDS version 2 and made it the default. However, DPA requires IMDS version 1.
Resolution
To resolve this issue:
-
For existing images, following the instructions in Configuring the instance metadata service on your environment's instances (© 2022 Amazon Web Services, available at https://docs.aws.amazon.com/, obtained on August 5, 2022) to change the version of the IMDS being used.
Under Disable IMDSv1, make sure that the Disabled checkbox is not selected.
-
For new images, redeploy the image in AWS. When selecting launch options:
-
Expand the Advanced details section.
-
Under Metadata version, select V1 and V2.
