Overview
When you upgrade from the Orion Platform to SolarWinds Platform, the upgrade removes your existing on-premises Orion deployment. Custom files stored in either of the following directories will not be available after the upgrade:
- The Orion installation directory (by default, C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion)
- The Orion SDK directory (by default, C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion SDK\SWQL Studio)
- The Unmanage Utility jobs and tasks (by default in C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\UnmanageUtility\Jobs and C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\UnmanageUtility\Tasks).

Resolution
Before you upgrade, back up any custom files stored in the Orion installation directory and the Orion SDK directory.
When the upgrade is complete, copy the files you backed up to the SolarWinds Hybrid Cloud Observability installation directory.
Custom files to back up include:
-
Custom trap templates, which are loaded by the SNMP Trap Message alert. These files have a .trap extension.
Note: There are three default out-of-the-box trap templates shipped with the Orion Platform: ForwardSyslog.trap, Orion-Detailed-Alert.trap, and Orion-Generic-Alert.trap. These templates are automatically restored after the upgrade. If you customized these, back up these templates as well.
-
Custom scripts stored in the installation directory (for example, scripts called by alert actions).
-
Custom scripts stored in the Orion SDK directory.
-
Legacy Report Writer reports.
-
Any other custom files in these directories.
-
Unamanage Utility jobs and tasks (C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\UnmanageUtility\Jobs and C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\UnmanageUtility\Tasks).
Restore Unmanage Utility after the upgrade
During the upgrade, the Unmanage Utility executable was moved to C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\UMURunner.exe. These steps expect that you have backed up the Unmanage Utility jobs and tasks.
- After the upgrade, restore the jobs and tasks.
- Restore the backed-up jobs to C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\UnmanageUtility\Jobs.
- Restore the backed-up tasks to C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\UnmanageUtility\Tasks.
- In the tasks, replace the original location of the Unmanage Utility executable C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\UnmanageUtility\Jobs\Runner\UnmanageRunner.exe with its current location: C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\UMURunner.exe.
