Files in Use Error

This article addresses errors that may occur when installing SolarWinds Orion Platform products.

Overview

Files in Use Error
A window with the following message displays during installation:
"The following applications are using files that need to updated by this setup. Close these applications and then click Retry to continue the installation or Exit to end it."

Orion Platform

Cause

This error may occur during SolarWinds installations on Windows Server. Services that should stop during installation or upgrade are not correctly stopped.

Resolution

To resolve this issue:

Click Start > All Programs > SolarWinds Orion > Advanced Features > Orion Service Manager.
Click Shutdown Everything.
Restart and finish the installation wizard.

(Note: Antivirus, UAC or other security software could be scanning or holding the file in use/blocked)
