False node down alert from an agent server in NPM

There are two ways NPM evaluates agent status: ICMP and Status & Response Time Agent

This article provides sequential steps to troubleshoot and resolve false Node Down alerts from a SolarWinds®Orion® agent.

The agent can be pinged and access remotely.

Resolution

Perform the following steps in order until the problem is resolved:

  1. Restart the agent service on the node.
  2. Re-sync the agent.
    1. Navigate to the agent configuration page control panel.
    2. Locate the problematic agent by its icon. 
    3. Re-enter the Orion server information and save your changes.
  3. Uninstall and then reinstall the agent.
