Failover alert action does not support selecting standby member in multi‑member pools in Solarwinds Self-Hosted Platform

This article discusses an issue where the failover alert action cannot be configured to target a specific standby server when the action is associated with a multi‑member pool (multi‑pool). The UI allows selecting only the pool, with no option to select which standby member should take ownership of being the active member, so the action cannot be configured at the required granularity for multi‑member pools.

Overview

In Solarwinds Self-hosted Platform, when attempting to configure an alert to automatically fail over a multi‑member pool:

  1. Create or use an existing multi‑member pool (multi‑pool).

  1. Go to Manage Alerts.

  2. Edit an alert (or create a new one) and go to the Actions section.

  3. Add a new action and select the Failover action type.

  4. The configuration UI allows selecting a pool, but there is no option to select a specific standby server within that pool.

Observed behavior:

  • The Failover action shows only a pool drop-down list.

  • It is not possible to choose an exact standby server for the failover when the selected pool has multiple members.

This has been identified as a known issue in SolarWinds Platform 2026.1.

Resolution

  • A fix for this issue is planned for a future release of the SolarWinds Platform.
