Overview
When you run the Provision WSUS Server for Publishing Wizard on a new WSUS server or a WSUS server without a WSUS cert store, the wizard fails and generates the following error:
The provisioning process is complete. handleremoteinstallation() failed to install the WMI providers. Process exit code:: 0x1 Message: STATUS_WAIT_1
Product section
Cause
A problem exists with the WSUS installation and\or the WSUS certification service (WSUSCertServer).
When Patch Manager creates a self-signed certificate, it also needs to create a WSUS certificate to store on the server. If an issue exists with the WSUS server, the WSUSCertServer does not stay running or the WSUS server fails. As a result, the certificate cannot be created and stored.
Resolution
- Reinstall WSUS on the Patch Manager server.
- Run the
WsusUtiltool to check the server health. - Review and troubleshoot the errors (if present).
- Publish the certificate to the server.
Reinstall WSUS on the Patch Manager server
See Deploy Windows Server Update Services on the Microsoft® website for details. (© 2018 Microsoft Corporation, available at https://docs.microsoft.com , obtained on April 25, 2018)
Run the wsusutil tool
- Log in to the Patch Manager server as an administrator.
- Open a command prompt window.
- Navigate to:
C:\Program Files\Update Services\Tools - Execute:
C:\Program Files\Update Services\Tools\WsusUtil.exe checkhealth
Review and troubleshoot the errors
If the following error displays, troubleshoot the error.
Fatal Error: Unable to contact the WSUS Service. Please verify that Windows Server Update Services is installed and running on the local machine.
WSUS server failures can range from an invalid wsuscontent directory a corrupted Windows Internal Database (WID).
The Application Event Log on your Patch Manager server can also provide information about the errors. Below is an example of the Application Event Log when the error displays:
Publish the certificate to the server
