Unable to unregister monitored database when selecting the option for "Remove the DPA database Objects from the Database Instance" or "Remove the Monitor User from the Database Instance"

This article provides information about an issue where multiple errors may appear when attempting to unregister a monitored database instance in DPA using the options “Remove the DPA database objects from the database instance” or “Remove the monitor user from the database instance.” Data removal from the DPA repository occurs as part of the process — even if these options are unchecked — and this is expected behavior.

When unregistering a monitored database instance from DPA, the following error message may appear:

Users may experience one or more of the following symptoms:

  • Unable to register monitored database instance after selecting "Remove the DPA database Objects from the Database Instance" or "Remove the Monitor User from the Database Instance"

Cause

This issue occurs because DPA attempts to connect to the monitored database instance in order to remove the monitored user or DPA-related objects. If the monitored database instance is no longer available, the unregister process is expected to fail.

Resolution

If the monitored database instance is no longer available or has been decommissioned, and the goal is simply to unregister the database instance, then uncheck both options:

  • Remove the DPA database objects from the database instance

  • Remove the monitor user from the database instance

This will unregister the instance and remove all associated data from the DPA repository.

If instead the goal is to remove the monitored user or DPA-related data from the monitored database instance itself (not from the DPA repository), you must first restore connectivity to the monitored instance and then retry the unregistration steps.
