Error message: "Database is nearing its maximum capacity" while you are using Engineer's Toolset Network Performance Monitor

The Engineer's Toolset edition of Network Performance Monitor uses a Microsoft Access database. Access databases have an inherent file size limit of 2GB. Once your database reaches this size, the Network Performance Monitor will no longer be able to store statistics.

If you are monitoring a large network or storing data over an extended period of time, you should consider using  Network Performance Monitor which uses a Microsoft SQL Server database.

To continue using the Engineer's Toolset edition of Network Performance Monitor, you will want to shrink the database periodically.

A possible error message as below might show up.

This error occurs due to the database nearing its 2 Gigabyte size limit.

Solution 1:

1. Close Network Performance Monitor. 
2. Run the following executable:

C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Toolset\Database-Maint.exe

  3.  Select Compact and Repair and click Run Job. 

  4.  Select Network Performance Monitor - Nightly Maintenance and click Run Job.

  5.  Open Network Performance Monitor.

Solution 2:

1. Close Network Performance Monitor.
2. Open Microsoft Access (2000 or later).
3. Select Tools > Database Utilities > Compact and Repair Database.
4. Select the following file:

C:\ProgramData\SolarWinds\Toolset\SWNetPerfMon.cfg

5. Once the repair has completed, close Access.
6. Open Network Performance Monitor.
