Cause

Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) or other Windows components are removed from the end-user machine.

Resolution

MDAC 2.8 is required, and it should be installed with Windows Server 2003. It is possible, however, that an older version of MDAC remains after upgrading your operating system from a previous version.

Download and install the Component Checker too l (© 2020 Microsoft, available at https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/, obtained on June 21, 2020). To confirm your MDAC version, use Microsoft's Component Checker tool, as follows:

  1. Run the Component Checker, as instructed on the page linked above, and then check the MDAC version.
    • Note: On Windows Server 2003, MDAC version 2.8 should be installed. For more information, see the MSDN Blog article, "MDAC Install Issues - Excellent Overview" (© 2020 Microsoft, available at https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/, obtained on June 21, 2020).
  2. If the installed version of MDAC is older than version 2.8, download a new version of MDAC from Microsoft (© 2020 Microsoft, available at https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/, obtained on June 21, 2020).
  3. If the installed version of MDAC is version 2.8 or higher, an incompatible .dll may be installed. To address this condition, reinstall MDAC, as indicated above.
  4. After you have confirmed that a valid version of MDAC is installed, run the SolarWinds Configuration Wizard again, opting to confirm all settings (Website, Database and Services).

If the steps above does not work, the end-user should reach out to their systems administrator or Microsoft support to have MDAC properly added back in the machine.
