Error: The formatter threw an exception while trying to deserialize the message: There was an error while trying to deserialize parameter http:// www.solarwinds.com/2007/08/APM:GetApplicationForEditResult.

When editing any AppInsight application, an error similar to the following appears: Error: The formatter threw an exception while trying to deserialize the message: There was an error while trying to deserialize parameter http://www.solarwinds.com/2007/08/APM:GetApplicationForEditResult. The InnerException message was 'Invalid enum value 'VisibleAsContainer' cannot be deserialized into type 'SolarWinds.APM.Common.Models.ComponentVisibilityMode'. Ensure that the neccessary enum values are present

Overview

When editing any AppInsight application, an error similar to the following appears:

Error: The formatter threw an exception while trying to deserialize the message: There was an error while trying to deserialize parameter http://www.solarwinds.com/2007/08/AP...nForEditResult. The InnerException
message was 'Invalid enum value 'VisibleAsContainer' cannot be deserialized into type 'SolarWinds.APM.Common.Models.ComponentVisibilityMode'. Ensure that the neccessary enum values are present and are marked with EnumMemberAttribute attribute if the type has DataContractAttribute attribute.'. Please see

Cause

There are permissions issue on the Orion Server with DLLs that Orion Services and the Orion Website rely on.

 

Resolution

Use the Orion Permission Checker Tool to repair the permissions on the Orion Server and any Additional Web server and Additional Polling Engines if present - Check permissions using the Orion Permission Checker
