Resolution
- Calculate the JVM memory for your deployment.
- Increase the JVM Memory allocated to Web Help Desk.
Calculate the JVM memory for your deployment
Calculate the JVM memory using the following formula:
- Assign 3 GB (for the first 10 technicians)
- Add 1 GB for every 10 additional technicians
By default, Web Help Desk is allocated 512 MB of memory for the Java Virtual Machine Heap Space.
For example, if you have 20 concurrent techs, the MAXIMUM_MEMORY setting should be:
- 3 GB + 1 GB = MAXIMUM_MEMORY
- 3072 +1024 = 4096 or 4 GB
Due to the memory limitations of 32-bit Java (1500 MB maximum heap size), deployments that require more than 10 simultaneous users logged in must install the Web Help Desk 64-bit version.
-
Increase the JVM memory allocated to Web Help Desk
- Log in to the Web Help Desk server.
- Open the WHD installation directory.
macOS:
Library\WebHelpDesk\confWindows: *:\Program Files\WebHelpDesk\conf
Linux: /usr/local/webhelpdesk/con
- Open the
whd.conffile in a text-editing program (such as Notepad). - Locate the MAXIMUM_MEMORY configuration setting.
- Enter the new value for the MAXIMUM_MEMORY setting.
- Save the file.
- Stop and start Web Help Desk
- Remove the problematic Emails from Web Help Desk Inbox
- Stop and start Web Help Desk .
- Log in to the mailbox WHD is monitoring.
- Move the oldest email out of the INBOX folder to a different folder.
- Start WHD
The remaining email should start getting processed. Wait until the the mailbox is empty before you attempt to move the email removed earlier back into the INBOX folder. If it doesn't get processed, remove it permanently. The email may have been corrupted in transit.
Increasing the Database Connection can also be done.
- Follow the instructions in this article to increase the database connection for PostgreSQL. Database Connections and PostgreSQL Max Connection in Web Help Desk
Check the email address in the E-mail Notification section and ensure that it is not the WHD email address or an auto mailer.
