End Of Life (EOL) / End of Sale (EOS) feature in NCM

This article discusses the expectations and how to understand what EOL/EOS is doing behind the scenes.

Network Configuration Manager provides End-of-Life / End-of-Support (EoL/EoS) information management. The purpose of this article is to set expectations on what this feature is/isn't, and to provide a few tips for using it in the most efficient way.

This NCM feature enables you to manage EoL/EoS dates in a much more convenient way than a spreadsheet, since it is linked to other device information NCM stores.

Improvements in SolarWinds Platform 2025.4 and above

Starting with SolarWinds Platform 2025.4, EOS/EOL dates for Palo Alto devices will be automatically imported.  Cisco devices remain fully supported and are automatically imported as in previous releases.

Typical workflow

1. Click My Dashboards > Network Configuration > End of Support. 

2. Select the devices you want to define end-of-life information for.
   You can do this in many different ways. For example, use the Group By drop-down on the left. You can also hover over a column to filter by the values in that column. You will probably want to define the same EoL/EoS information for a group of devices of the same properties, such as machine type, firmware version, etc. You can see the applied filter(s) in the top left corner.
   

3. Select the resulting devices and click on Assign Dates.
   

4. Inspect the suggestions and do one of the following:

   • Select one of the suggested pieces of EoL information. 

     We provide external links to vendor pages that help you choose the correct item. You can also enter a comment that will be displayed in the resulting report.
     

   • If our database does not provide any suggestions, enter your own data.

     (In addition to the dates and comments, SolarWinds recommends inserting a link to the source of the information.)
     

5. Click Assign.

6. Optionally, you can create a report. Filter the columns as needed and export the result as spreadsheet.
   

Vendor information

If our database does not provide suggestions to choose from or the suggestions are incorrect, you can look up the end-of-life information yourself. 

If you would like other vendor information to be automatically imported, please open a SolarWinds Support ticket and request it as a feature request.
