Overview

The centralized (remote) logging feature of DameWare Mini Remote Control (DMRC) Client Agent Service enables Administrators to send a duplicate copy of the DWMRCS entries recorded in the Application Event log on a remote machine to another centralized logging server.

For additional information on how this process works, consider the following:

1. All machines (the ones that are sending the logs and the one that receives the logs) must have the Dameware Mini Remote Control agent Service installed & running (not in a stopped state).

2. All machines sending logs must have the following settings defined within the DMRC Client Agent Service:

  • The "Enable Remote Logging" setting must be enabled.
  • The IP address, Host Name, or FQDN of the machine receiving the Log Files (Log Host) must be specified.
  • The correct TCP port that the DMRC Client Agent Service is configured to listen on, on the remote machine (Log Host Port Number) must be specified.

When connecting to the machine using the DMRC software, the Log Entry will automatically be recorded in the Operating System's Application Event Log on the remote machine.  The DMRC Client Agent Service on that machine will also forward a duplicate copy of the Log Entry to the Dameware Mini Remote Control Agent service running on the Log Host machine (Logging server).

3. The machine receiving the Log Files must have the following settings defined within the DMRC Client Agent Service:

  • The "Enable Logging to this host" setting must be enabled
  • A Log Path for the local machine must be specified (i.e., C:\DameWare Log Files\ ).  A UNC path is not valid.
  • The Maximum Log File size must be specified in bytes.

When the DMRC Client Agent Service on the machine sees an inbound logging request, it will take in the log entry and then append it to the DWRCS.CSV file in the specified Log Path directory.  If the file does not exist, one will be created.

6. Disconnect the remote machine and connect again. It should create a CSV file. You can locate the file in the Dameware Log Server  (C:\Windows\dwrcs\DWRCS.csv). You can then convert it into an Excel file.

The sample result shows in the image below.
