Download configuration through SNMP without device login credentials in NCM

Overview

This article provides steps on how to setup NCM to download device configuration through SNMP if you do not have device login credentials.

Currently, NCM only supports Cisco devices for SNMP config download. With devices of other manufacturers, you will receive an error: this is not a Cisco device

You need to have a read/write SNMP community string for the node.
You must need to make sure TFTP port is opened and the device can communicate [Telnet] TFTP host

  1. Create the NCM-SNMP profile for your device.
    1. In the Orion Web Console, click Settings > All Settings.
    2. Under Product Specific Settings, click NCM Settings.

    3. Under Global Device Defaults, click Connection Profiles.

    4. Click Create New.
    5. On the Create New Connection Profile page, enter the details as shown below:

    6. Click Submit
  2. Assign the new connection profile to the node.
    1. Click Settings > Manage Nodes.
    2. Select the node, and click Edit Properties.
    3. Under NCM Properties, select the profile you have created.

      Do not use the TEST button. Test button is for Telnet/SSH only.

    4. Click Submit.
  3. On the Summary page, click the node > in the left-hand menu, click Configs.
  4. Download the configuration.



 

On TFTP Server, you will see following logs which is saved in the database.

The TFTP root will be used only for temporary purposes. This is automatically empty which is the default behavior as the device configuration is saved in the database.
