Overview

When installing an evaluation version of a SolarWinds Platform-based product, you might automatically become a participant of the SolarWinds Improvement Program (SWIP), and your usage data might be provided to SolarWinds and used to improve our products.
In earlier platform versions, the improvement program was called Orion Improvement Program (OIP).

Resolution

Although the data are not strictly anonymous because each SolarWinds installation has its own unique identifier, no sensitive data (such as IP addresses or host names) are collected. The improvement program provides us with valuable data that we use to tailor our products to your needs. Moreover, the improvement program does not impact performance in any way, so please consider participating in it.

Recommended: Opt out of web analytics while keeping SWIP enabled

Some users are primarily concerned with the new web analytics–related GUI additions (such as in‑product guides and visual overlays), rather than with participating in SWIP itself. Disabling SWIP completely also removes these features, but this is no longer the preferred option.

Instead, you can first opt out of web analytics feedback, while keeping SWIP enabled. This allows you to remove the new web analytics–driven UI elements without disabling all SWIP telemetry used to improve SolarWinds products.

To opt out of web analytics while keeping SWIP enabled:

  1. Sign in to the SolarWinds Platform Web Console as an administrator.

  2. Follow the steps in the SolarWinds Platform Web Analytics documentation to locate the advanced setting that controls web analytics feedback.

  3. Use that advanced setting to disable web analytics feedback while leaving SWIP enabled.

If disabling web analytics does not address your needs and you still want to stop sending SWIP data entirely, you can completely disable SWIP as described below.

To disable your participation in SWIP for SolarWinds Platform products running 2026.2.2 and newer:

  1. Log in to the SolarWinds Platform server with administrative privileges.
  2. Open Advanced Configuration page in the web console ( /orion/admin/advancedconfiguration/global.aspx )
  3. Uncheck the OptIn checkbox under the Swip.Settings section.
  4. Save the changes.

To disable your participation in SWIP for SolarWinds Platform products running 2022.3-2026.2.1:

  1. Log in to your SolarWinds Platform-based product server.
  2. Start SolarWinds Improvement Program Settings via Start >SolarWinds Platform > SolarWinds Improvement Program.

Your data will no longer be provided to SolarWinds after this.

Note: Disabling PRODUCT_BEHAVIOR_OPT_IN< also prevents DPA from sending anonymized product usage data to the analysis tool Pendo.
