Enable / Disable Password Generators in Serv-U File Share

This article provides steps on how to enable or disable the password generators in the Serv-U Web Client File Share when requesting or sending files.

Overview

Sending or requesting files through File Share in the Serv-U Web Client can be secured by generating passwords. There is an option to enable or disable this option in the Serv-U Management Console.

Resolution

1. Open the Serv-U Management Console.
2. Navigate to the level where you want to disable it (e.g., Global, Domains, Groups, or Users).
3. Click on Limits & Settings then Limits tab
4. In the Limit Type drop-down menu, select Password.
5. Look for Disable password generators and double click OR click the Add button to introduce a new rule.
6. From the Limit drop-down box, select Disable password generators.
7. Check (to enable) or uncheck (to disable) the box to activate the limit (enabling the limit means the generator will be disabled).
8. Click Save

Note: Do not mistake this feature for disabling the user password. This is only for the File Share password generators.
