Overview

If a proxy server has been enabled in your SolarWinds Platform server or the network SolarWinds Platform Virtualization Monitor will attempt to use it to by default connect to VMware vCenter if you are polling via VMAN polling method and these connection attempts may not succeed due to ACL blocking certain type of traffic.
Symptoms include, you may not see any vmware events under vmware resource views and following error is noticed in the Log Manager Polling Service Logs

2019-09-13 07:53:21,847 [68] ERROR SolarWinds.Orion.LogMgmt.Plugin.VMan.LoggerWrapper - Unable to log in to VMware
System.ServiceModel.EndpointNotFoundException: There was no endpoint listening at https://10.x.x.x/sdk that could accept the message. This is often caused by an incorrect address or SOAP action. See InnerException, if present, for more details. ---> System.Net.WebException: The remote server returned an error: (407) Proxy Authentication Required

Resolution

To configure Virtualization Monitor to not use any existing default proxy server(s) that may have been enabled in your organization:

  1. Log on to your SolarWinds Platform server using an account with administrative privileges.
  2. In a text editor, open the SolarWinds.VIM.VMware.Jobs.dll.config, SolarWinds.VIM.BusinessLayer.dll.config and the SolarWinds.VIM.Collector.dll.configconfiguration files, located, by default, in C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\VIM\.
  3. Within the <configuration></configuration> tags and after <log4net></log4net> the section add:
<system.net>
    <!--Specifies whether a web proxy is used. The default value is true. -->
    <defaultProxy enabled="false" />
  </system.net>
  1. Save the SolarWinds.VIM.VMware.Jobs.dll.config, SolarWinds.VIM.BusinessLayer.dll.config and the SolarWinds.VIM.Collector.dll.config configuration files.
  2. Click Start > Administrative Tools > Services.
  3. Right-click SolarWinds Job Engine v2, and then click Restart.

For No VMware Events in the Vmware Events Resource view (Only available from VMan 8.4 onwards)
1. Add below block before </configuration> tag

<system.net>
    <!--Specifies whether a web proxy is used. The default value is true. -->
    <defaultProxy enabled="false" />
  </system.net>

In the following files(backup please before making these changes):
- OLM polling source (c:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orio\OLM\SolarWinds.Orion.LogMgmt.PollingService.exe.config )
