Dell BIOS updates display as Not Applicable

This article addresses a Not Applicable message that displays when you install Dell software updates on a managed system.

Overview

When you install Dell software updates on your managed systems, the updates display as Not Applicable.

Cause

The updates display as Not Applicable if the Windows Update Agent is unable to verify the necessary elements from the Applicability Rules against the local machine.

Resolution

The BIOS packages available through Patch Manager perform a WMI query to confirm the applicability of the BIOS packages. In order for the packages to be applicable, install the Dell OpenManage Inventory Agent to create the necessary WMI elements to verify the version.
 

  1. Open the Patch Manager Administrator Console.
  2. Ih the navigation pane, expand Administration and Reporting > Software Packages > Dell Packages.
  3. Select Filter Options.
  4. Set the options to:
    • Filter based on Any of the following conditions
    • Name | Contains | Inventory
  5. Click OK.
