Delete polling engines in SolarWinds Platform

This article provides brief information and steps to delete/remove APE (Additional Polling Engine). If there are any polling engines in your SolarWinds environment that are not currently assigned to any monitored objects, you can delete them directly from the Polling Engine details view.

Overview

If there are any polling engines in your SolarWinds environment that are not currently assigned to any monitored objects, you can delete them directly from the Polling Engine details view.
 

Notes:

  • This method for deleting polling engines from your SolarWinds environment is only available for polling engines to which there are no longer any assigned objects for monitoring.
  • If you want to delete an existing polling engine to which monitored objects are currently assigned, use Node Management to reassign monitored objects to other polling engines, as necessary, and then delete the polling engine as indicated in this procedure.

Remove Engines from the SolarWinds Platform Web Console

  1. Log in to the SolarWinds Web Console as a user with administrative rights.
  2. Navigate to Settings > All Settings.
  3. At the end of All Settings page click Polling Engines.
  4. If the Elements listing for the polling engine you want to delete shows 0 elements assigned, click Delete unused polling engine.
  5. If not, move the elements to another polling engine before deleting the engine.
  6. Confirm the polling engine deletion by clicking Yes, delete.
  7. If the polling engine shows red - not in sync, it is likely not communicating and will have to be manually removed from the database.

Remove Engines directly from the database

Make sure you have a current backup of the database.

  1. Connect to the SolarWinds Platform Main Polling Engine.
  2. Open Database Manager from the SolarWinds Platform folder of the start menu.
  3. Click Add Orion server.
  4. Expand the SQL server and database in bold to show tables.
  5. Double-click Engines.
  6. Execute query.
  7. Click Enable table editing.
  8. Right-click the row containing the engine name.
  9. Delete the row.
  10. Execute the query again to ensure the table is updated.

In a multi-module environment with VNQM installed, you need to delete the corresponding row from the [VoipEngines] database table by deleting the row with the EngineID that equals the EngineID in the deleted row in the [Engines] database table.
