Overview

This article describes the default ICMP Ping packet size that NPM uses for ICMP Ping status polling, and how to adjust this setting.

By default, NPM ICMP settings is set to 120 seconds.

 

Default Node Poll Interval:

Check response time and status every configured time interval.

 

ICMP Timeout:

All ICMP (ping) requests made by the SolarWinds poller time out if a response is not received within the period designated. By default, this period is 2500 ms.

 

ICMP Data:

This string is included within all ICMP packets sent by SolarWinds.  The default size is 23 bytes..  Please be aware that the default PING size for a command prompt PING is 32 bytes.  You can add 9 characters to the default data set in this setting to increase the ICMP packet size to 32 bytes.


Note:

  • To increase the packet size open the web console and navigate to Settings -> All Settings.
  • In the Thresholds and Polling group click on Polling Settings.
  • In the Network section edit the ICMP Data field then scroll to the bottom of the page and click submit.
