Database Performance Analyzer (DPA) and the Spring Security RegexRequestMatcher Vulnerability (CVE-2022-22978)

Database Performance Analyzer (DPA) was reported as being potentially vulnerable to authorization bypass due to a RegexRequestMatcher class vulnerability in Spring Security versions 5.5.6 and 5.6.3 (CVE-2022-22978). Upon further analysis, this is confirmed as a false positive, as DPA does not utilize RegexRequestMatcher.

Overview

In Spring Security versions 5.5.6 and 5.6.3 and older unsupported versions, RegexRequestMatcher can easily be misconfigured to be bypassed on some servlet containers. Applications using RegexRequestMatcher with `.` in the regular expression can be vulnerable to an authorization bypass. Because DPA does not use RegexRequestMatcher, it is not affected by this vulnerability.

As part of our continued security improvements, the Spring Security library used in DPA version 2022.3 has been upgraded to a newer version (5.7.1) that does not include this vulnerability.

Resolution

DPA 2022.2 is not affected, but vulnerability scanners might flag the use of affected Spring Security libraries. SolarWinds recommends that customers upgrade to DPA 2022.3 if they wish to avoid these false positive flags.
