Overview

After downloading and attempting to run the installation script to install the DPM agent a user may receive an error similar to the following:

The API token you used, ABCDEFGHI123456789, is not valid, please verify and retry installation.

This is usually caused by one of the following:

  • The token has expired.
  • The token is not an installation token but a token created using the API Tokens page.

Cause

For security, the tokens given by the On-Host and Off-Host workflows are temporary and will expire. A new, temporary token is generated each time the Add New Host wizard is opened. If the wizard is opened but installation is not attempted within a certain period of time, the token expires and a new one will need to be generated.

Tokens used for installation are only provided by the Add New Host wizard; tokens created on the API Tokens page within Settings are used for integration with Single Sign On and the DPM API.
