DPA SAP HANA monitor remains in “Attempting to Start” for HANA 2.0 SPS05
In DPA 2026.2, an SAP HANA On-Premise database instance can register successfully and authenticate correctly, but remain in the Attempting to Start state without collecting monitoring data. This issue occurs when the monitored SAP HANA instance is running SAP HANA 2.0 SPS05 (Revision 59), including the 2.00.059.xx version family.

Overview
The database instance registers successfully, but the monitor does not transition to Running. The DPA idc.log may contain messages similar to:
invalid column name: TOTAL_BUFFER_CACHE_PAGE_MISS_COUNT - SAP DBTech JDBC [265]
Depending on the polling query and DPA build, the log may also report an invalid HANA system-view column such as:
invalid column name: CLIENT_APPLICATION
or:
invalid column name: C_UNIT_APPLICATION
The log may show errors from the SAP HANA state or statistics polling services, followed by a message that the monitor failed to start.

Cause
DPA 2026.2 SAP HANA monitoring queries reference system-view columns that are not available in the SAP HANA 2.0 SPS05 schema. Registration and authentication can still succeed because those steps do not require the affected polling queries. Data collection fails when DPA starts Quick Poll or Statistics Poll, so the monitor remains in Attempting to Start.
SAP HANA SPS05 or earlier is outside the validated compatibility scope for SAP HANA monitoring in DPA 2026.2. DPA 2026.2 SAP HANA monitoring has been validated against SAP HANA 2.0 SPS07 and SPS08.
Resolution
-
Upgrade the SAP HANA On-Premise instance to SAP HANA 2.0 SPS07 or later. SPS08 is recommended.
-
After the HANA upgrade is complete, restart the DPA monitor for the database instance.
-
You do not need to remove and re-register the database instance.
-
Confirm that the monitor transitions to Running and that new monitoring data is collected.
