Overview

By default, the current version of Serv-U displays the following message to FTP clients when they log in:

Serv-U FTP Server vx.x ready...

This message can be configured in cases where administrators need to change it for IT security frameworks such as COBIT, ISO 17799, and others require the server banners to NOT display the version of the software installed. To change the banner message, the FTP settings of the domain and the variable list available in the user manual need to be edited using the steps in this article.

Resolution

Note: When changing the welcome or banner message, some FTP clients such as FTP Voyager, may not recognize Serv-U as a server, thereby disabling some of the special features available when using FTP Voyager and Serv-U at the same time.

  1. Open the Serv-U Management Console, and then go to Domain Limits & Settings (or Server Limits & Settings if the settings should apply server-wide).
  2. Go to the FTP Settings tab, and then select the Use Custom Settings option.
  3. Select Global Properties..., and then select the appropriate response code, and then click Edit.
