Creating an MSI Package with the Dameware Mini Remote Control Client Agent MSI Builder

One way to install the Dameware Mini Remote Control (MRC) Client Agent Service on a remote machine is by building a Windows Installer (MSI) package via the new MRC Client Agent MSI Builder included in the later versions.
The MRC Client Agent MSI Builder allows the user to build custom MSI packages, including any custom settings (INI or Registry), to deploy the MRC Client Agent Service in his environment. These MSI packages can then be sent to clients via any of the existing distribution methods (email, distribution via Group Policies, etc.)

To run the MSI Builder:

Click Start > All Programs /All Apps > SolarWinds > Dameware Mini Remote Control Client Agent MSI Builder.

Go to  installation folder, and then open .

1. Launch Dameware Mini Remote Control Client Agent MSI Builder.
2. Select the appropriate target operating system.
3. Click Profile to create a File Name of the installer.
4. Click Client Agent to make any modifications via Dameware Mini Remote Control Properties GUI.
5. Click OK to exit the Dameware Mini Remote Control Properties window once all modifications have been completed.
6. Click ... to specify the output folder.
7. Click Build MSI to build the custom MSI package containing all the custom settings created in the output folder.

Dameware Development partnered with RSA Security, Inc., to use the BSAFE Crypto-C Micro Edition cryptography module, which met all Level 1 requirements for Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) 140-2 compliance when operated in FIPS Mode. However, in order to take advantage of this new FIPS Mode option, the RSA FIPS Modules must also be on the remote machine, which can easily be included in the MSI package by enabling the Include FIPS Modules checkbox. When this new FIPS Mode option is set, Dameware Mini Remote Control exclusively uses the BSAFE Crypto-C ME FIPS 140-2 validated cryptographic library, which allows only FIPS-approved algorithms to be used. The new FIPS mode functionality is included in version 9.x and later of Dameware Mini Remote Control.

1. The oldest versions of Dameware MSI Builder did not support the creation of installation packages for 64-bit operating systems. Manually install Dameware MSI Builder, or install it via Dameware NT Utilities Service View. It can also be installed directly from within MRC.
2. In order to build MSI packages with the MRC Client Agent MSI Builder (DMRCSMSI.EXE), the local machine must be running Windows 2000 or later, and also have Microsoft Windows Installer (MSI) 2.0 or later. MSI 2.0 should be automatically included in Windows 2000-SP1 and later. Only MSI 1.1 or later is required to run MSI packages created by the MSI Builder.
