This article provides steps on how to create Syslog rules and corresponding alert actions via Syslog Viewer on the SolarWinds Application Server.

Note: If you have a fresh installation of NPM 2019.4 or newer, you will not have the Syslog and Traps Viewer applications. Access your log messages and rules in the Orion Web Console.

  1. Access the Syslog Viewer from the SolarWinds application server via All programs > Solarwinds Orion > Syslog and SNMP Traps, and select Syslog Viewer.
  2. From the menu of the Viewer, choose Files > Settings > Alerts/Filter Rules tab.
  3. Select Add New Rule.
  4. Click the tab to fill in the criteria you want to alert on.
  5. Click the Alert Actions tab > Add New Action to define the action (for instance, Send an E-Mail/Page).
  6. Fill in the appropriate email address and the hostname or IP address of the SMTP server.
