Create monitors for processes, services, and performance counters in SAM with the Component Monitor Wizard
This article describes how to monitor any of the following components in SAM: Windows service, Windows process, Windows performance counter, Linux process, and VMWare performance counter.

Overview
This article describes how to set up a monitor for the following elements:
- Windows service
- Windows process
- Windows performance counter
- Linux process
- VMWare performance counter
To monitor Linux services, review the Apache template as a starting point. See also Monitor Linux Services FTP, Apache, and Windows Services and Monitor a Service in Linux Server. Note: Linux service state data is not made available by Linux SNMP MIBs but you can use the Linux/Unix Script Monitor to call a service network status command, and then parse the output. If scripting isn't your forte, ask members of the THWACK community for assistance in the Script Lab.

Note: With the exception of SNMP monitoring, an account with Administrator rights must be provided for the monitored machine.
1. Log in to the Orion Web Console using a SAM administrative account.
2. Go to Settings > SAM Settings > Component Monitor Wizard.
3. Select the desired component monitor type from the list, then click Next.
4. Select and enter the credentials of the nodes to be monitored. Click Next.
Note: Credentials are not needed for SNMP monitors.
5. Select services, processes, or performance counters to be monitored.
Note: Multiple components can be selected.
6. Click Next.
7. Review the properties of the new components and edit, as necessary.
Do not use a "*" wildcard in the Instance field for Performance Counters; only a single instance can be monitored per component monitor.
8. Click Next.
Note: It is recommended to create a new application template and provide the details needed. Click Next.
Another option is to add new components to an existing template.
9. The selected nodes in Step 4 are shown. Click Next.
10. Finish the wizard by clicking Ok, Create.
