Create a basic report for Interface Usage or bandwidth utilization in NPM

This article provides information and steps how to create a basic report on interface usage or bandwidth utilization in NPM.

Network Performance Monitor

Note: Depending on how your organization's SolarWinds Platform is configured, you may require administrator privileges to create reports.

1. Log in to the SolarWinds Platform Web Console.
2. Go to Manage Reports.
3. Click Create New Report. 
4. Enter a new name for your report and a brief description. 
5. Enter the content of your report, and select Custom Table. 
6. Select objects you are going to report on.
   • Notes: 
     • In the Advanced selector, Dynamic Query Builder must be selected. 
     • I want to report on Interface must be selected.
     • The Full name is equal to the interface's name.
     • All interfaces start with the node name followed by the interface name. It can help to collect all interfaces of the same node using the condition 'starts with'.
7. Click Add. 
8. Click Edit Table, and then add a column.
   • Notes:
     • Include the information on the Interface that you want to reflect on your report. 
     • The Average bps (transmitted and received) or Average Percent Utilization.
     • To avoid inconsistency use InterfaceName or Caption + InterfaceID. 
       • InterfaceName in the database is sometimes given the same name for more than 1 interface, the report groups this information and shows it as a single one, so not all interfaces will be listed on the report.
9. Click Preview to confirm the details you need have been added. 
10. Click Submit.

Note:

• Interface Bandwidth Utilization is only capable of reporting traffic utilization of the interface as a whole and could not break it down to specifics (e.g. Remote Access Bandwidth Utilization etc.)
