How to create an alert for Interface Utilization in NPM

When there is a need to monitor interface utilization and be notified, this article provides steps on how to create an alert when Interface Utilization exceeds a specific value.

Network Performance Monitor

• Log in to the Orion Web Console using an administrator account.
• Go to Settings > Manage Alerts > click Add New Alert.
• In the Trigger Condition, select Interface in the I want to alert on the drop-down list.

• In the Scope of alert, select either All Objects in my Environment or Only Following set of objects.
• Specify the actual trigger condition:

• Choose Current Value (Transmit Utilization) and Current Value (Receive Utilization).
• Set value for the alert to trigger (i.e. 50%).
• Click Next to proceed to the Reset Condition tab, and choose the preferred option.
• Click Next to proceed to the Time of Day tab, and choose the preferred option.
• Click Next to proceed to the Trigger Action tab, create your preferred action/s.
• Click Next to proceed to the Reset Action tab, and create your preferred action/s.
• Click Next to proceed to the Summary tab to review all settings.
• Click Submit to save changes.

When the interface utilization exceeds 50%, you will be alerted in a specified way.
