Create a NOC View - Video

A Network Operations Center (NOC) view provides a single page view of critical statistics that can fit on a TV screen or a mobile device. Subviews rotate automatically on the screen, so each subview is available as a separate slide. This video demonstrates how to create a NOC view.

Up to this point, we’ve only been looking at traditional views. But there’s another way of looking at your views with what is called NOC view mode. NOC views are basically stripped-down views designed to be displayed upon a wall-mounted monitor someplace.

If you look at the view editor, there’s a simple checkbox to enable NOC view mode. But rather than turn on the NOC view here, we want to take a look at another NOC view we've already built.

Go into Settings, Views, and Created NOC views. This shows me a list of all my views that have NOC view mode enabled. I’ll choose my Events and Alerts view and click edit.

The first thing you’ll notice here is that there’s no difference between this view and any other in the view editor, except that NOC view mode is enabled. And this view can be previewed as either a NOC view or a traditional view. NOC's look is different from traditional views, obviously, but in terms of how they function, they’re not all that different. But one area where they are very different is in how they handle subviews.

Here you’ll notice that the left navigation is enabled and that there are 3 tabs created. In a traditional view, when you click on preview, you're going to see tabs on the left-hand side of the screen, and they can be used for navigation. But remember, NOC view modes aren’t really designed to be interacted with, so instead of expecting a user to click on a tab, NOC view mode will continuously cycle through the tabs.

If your view has left navigation enabled, you’ll see a timer just below NOC view mode. Here you can set your views to rotate at whatever interval you’d like. To show you how this will work, let me set the interval to 5 seconds. Now we want to see how the NOC view looks, so click on Done & go to NOC.

So let’s take a look at what we’ve got. First, you’ll notice that the menu bars up at the top are missing, as is the notification bar. NOC views are designed to have an immaculate look, and they’re not really designed to be interacted with.
