Create a Group of Nodes alert, using a Custom property to Identify Group name and Group Member Name With Variables
This article provides steps on how to create an alert on a group of nodes using a custom property. It gives you the option of using variables to pull back the Group Name and Group Member Name of the Node that has triggered the alert.

To create an alert for a group of nodes, complete the following steps before you start creating the alert.
- Create a Custom Property.
- Create the Group and add the Group Members.
- Create the alert using the Group Members with the Group Name.

Create a custom property and associate your Group with it:
- Open Orion Web Console and navigate to Settings > All Settings > Manage Custom Properties.
- Add a custom property.
- Create a new custom property based on the selected object type - Groups.
- Click Next.
- Add Property name.
- Format - YES/NO.
- Click Next.
- Select Group/s > Choose your Group/s > Add > Select Group/s.
- Assign a value for Custom Property Name to selected Groups - Drop down menu select Yes.
- Click Submit.
Create your Alert:
- Open Orion Web Console and navigate to Settings > All Settings > Manage Alerts
- Create a new alert and specify the name of the alert:
- Click Next
- Specify the trigger condition as follows for this alert to trigger on members that are not in status UP:
- Click Next
- In Reset Condition define the condition when the alert will no longer be considered true. Here is an example of Reset condition that will reset he alert when the Trigger condition is no longer true:
- Click Next
- On-Time of Day, specify when the alert should trigger.
- Click Next
- On Trigger Action, specify what happens when the alert condition is true.
- Click Next
- On Reset Action, define what happens when the alert condition is no longer true.
- Click Next
- Review the Summary and click Submit.
