"Configuring message bus failed due to mismatch certificate thumbprint" error in SolarWinds Platform

After upgrading the SolarWinds Platform from 2025.2 to 2025.4.2, the web console is unavailable with an ASP.NET generic error, and the Configuration Wizard failed at the “Configuring message bus” / RabbitMQ step.

Overview

After upgrading from 2025.2 to 2025.4.2, the console is unavailable with an ASP.NET generic error, and the Configuration Wizard failed at the “Configuring message bus” / RabbitMQ step.

Cause

The issue was caused by the certificate store on the server itself and the certificates table having different thumbprints.

Certificate table in the database: This content is from the Certificates table of the SolarWinds Platform database.

 

The certificate in the server itself. This can be viewed in certificate management on the server itself.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, perform the steps below:

  1. Connect to the SolarWinds Platform server.

  2. Open the Manage computer certificates Microsoft Management Console snap-in, and delete certificates in Local Computer\Personal\Certificates issued to:

    1.  

      SolarWinds Root CA

       

    2. SolarWinds SCA

       

    3. SolarWinds CM Service

       

    4. SolarWinds CM Client

       

  3. Restart the Certificate Management Service.

     

  4. Re-run the Configuration Wizard.
