Configure the Orion Platform to monitor a SEM appliance
This article describes how to configure Orion Platform server to enable SNMP monitoring of a SEM appliance.

Set up SNMP monitoring on the SEM CMC
- Log in to SSH as CMC user.
- Run:
service - snmp
- When prompted, type N to preserve the SNMP Trap Logging Service settings.
- When prompted, type Y to enable the SNMP Request Service.
- Configure the following settings:
Keep the default values.- Port number
- Username
- Authentication algorithm (no authentication, MD5, or SHA1)
- Authentication password
- Encryption algorithm (no encryption, DES56, or AES128)
- Encryption password
- Complete the setup.
The SNMP Request Service is started.
Set up SNMP monitoring on the Orion Platform server
- Log in to the Orion Web Console as an administrator.
- Click Settings > All Settings.
- Under Node and Group Management, click Manage Nodes.
- In the Manage Nodes screen, select a node to manage.
Manage an existing node
If the node already exists but is not managed:
- Place your mouse pointer over the node.
- Click Commands, and then select Not Managed Node: Yes, manage the node.
Manage a new node
If the node does not exist:
- Click Add Node.
- In the Define Mode tab, configure the node settings.
- In the Polling Hostname or IP Address field, enter the IP address of the LEM Manager.
- Under Polling Method, select Most Devices: SNMP and ICMP.
- Click the SNMP Version drop-down menu and select SNMPv3
Additional menu options display - In the SNMP Port field, enter the SNMP port number.
- Under SNMPv3 Credentials, enter the SNMPv3 username.
- Under SNMPv3 Authentication, select a method and enter the authentication password.
- Under SNMPv3 Privacy / Encryption, select a method and enter a password.
- Keep all remaining fields and selections.
Important: In the lower section of the form, ensure the fields remain blank. This is a SEM-specific setting for SNMPv3. Completing the Username and Context fields, for example, will cause the connection test to fail.
- Click Test to verify the connection between the Orion Platform Server and the SEM server.
- If the connection is OK, press Next.
- In the Choose Responses tab screen, select the resources you want to monitor, and then click Next.
- Complete the wizard to add the node to the Orion Platform.
