Overview

SolarWinds Service Desk custom forms can collect additional information through custom fields. Field Logic can show, hide, enable, disable, or require fields based on conditions from other fields on the same form.

Cause

Field Logic does not provide a copy-and-paste option for duplicating logic. Each repeated question set must therefore use separately created fields with its own applicable logic.

Resolution

  1. Plan a separate group of fields for each required occurrence, such as Vendor 1, Vendor 2, through Vendor 6. Include a controlling field, such as Add another?, when needed.

  2. Navigate to Setup > Service Desk > Custom Fields and click Add.

  3. Create each field with a unique name, select the appropriate field type and scope, and click Save.

  4. Navigate to Setup > Service Desk > Custom Forms, open the required form, and click Add Field to add the fields. Arrange the fields in the required order.

  5. For each controlling field, click Add Logic and create the required condition set:

    • Select the controlling field.
    • Select the appropriate operator and value.
    • Add an action such as Show Field, Hide Field, Required Field, or Not required field.
    • Select the fields belonging to the corresponding repeated group.
    • Click Add Action.
  6. Repeat the configuration for each question set and test the form to confirm that the fields appear and become required as intended.

NOTE: There is no copy-and-paste function for Field Logic. Repeated groups must be created and configured individually.

Additional Notes

Use consistent field names and numbering so administrators can identify the controlling fields and their dependent fields easily.
