Configure Serv-U to automatically connect to a secure connection FTP to FTPS and HTTP to HTTPS

This article demonstrates how to force FTP or HTTP to connect in a secure connection such as FTPS or HTTPS.

Overview

Serv-U can redirect connection from FTP to FTPS or HTTP to HTTPS to make it more secure. When a user connects on a browser using HTTP, the connection will be redirected to HTTPS automatically, and the same thing goes for FTP. Please refer to the procedure below.

Resolution

  1. Log in to Serv-U Management console.
  2. Go to Domain Limits & Settings.
  3. Under the Limits tab, go to Connection Limit Type.
  4. Add a new Limit for "Require secure connection before login" and set it to Yes.
  5. Save.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

  • Redirecting FTP to SFTP is not possible.
  • Port 80 must be enabled in Serv-U domain listeners
  • Traffic to port 80 from the internet going to Serv-U must be open
