How to configure the SQL Server Network Configuration for remote connections?

Overview

While deploying Orion in a production environment it is recommended to have Orion related databases hosted on a separate SQL Server from the Orion application hosting server. For requirements for the Orion platform please check the following documentation:  This article will provide steps on how to configure the SQL Server Network Configuration for remote connections.

Resolution

Please follow these steps:

  1. RDP to SQL Servers hosting Orion platform related databases.
  2. Open SQL Server Configuration Manager (for more information please visit SQL Server Configuration Manager (© 2021 Microsoft, available at https://www.microsoft.com, obtained on July 23, 2021))
  3. Please make sure the following configurations are set:

  1. In TCP/IP Properties make sure the TCP Port is specified and that TCP Dynamic Ports is empty as shown in this screenshot:

Note: The port from this screenshot is the default port, it can be changed to the preferred port. 
  1. After saving the configuration you will need to restart the running services listed in SQL Server Configuration Manager

After these steps have been performed on your Orion application servers execute the Configuration Wizard. 
Note: If SQL Server Browser service is not running on the SQL Server you will need to specify the port used while running the Configuration Wizard, please check the following screenshot as an example:
