Configure SNMP for Websense system alerts in SEM

This article applies to Security Event Manager (formerly Log & Event Manager).

This article provides steps to configure SNMP for Websense system alerts.

System and usage alerts for Websense Web Security and Web Filter are not stored in the Websense SQL Server database. To capture these alerts with your SEM Manager, your Websense product must be set to send them to your SEM Manager's SNMP service.

To configure Websense Web Security or Web Filter to send SNMP alerts for system and usage events:

1. Log in to your Websense web console as a Super Administrator.
2. On the navigation pane, click the Settings tab.
3. Expand Alerts and click Enable Alerts.
4. Under SNMP Alerts, check Enable SNMP alerts and complete the following fields:
   • Community name: Enter a name for the new alert store.
   • Server IP or name: Enter the IP address or hostname of your SEM appliance.
   • Port: Enter 162.
5. Click OK, and then Save All.
6. On the navigation pane, click System under the Alerts heading.
7. Check the boxes next to the System events you want reported to your SEM manager.
8. Click OK, and then click Save All.
9. On the navigation pane, click Category Usage under the Alerts heading.
10. To edit Category Usage Alert settings:
    1. Double-click the Category Name.
    2. Deselect SNMP by clearing the SNMP checkbox.
    3. Click OK.
11. If you have finished editing these settings, click Save All.
12. On the navigation pane, click Protocol Usage under the Alerts heading.
13. To edit Protocol Usage Alert settings:
    1. Double-click the Protocol Name.
    2. Deselect SNMP by unchecking the SNMP checkbox.
    3. Click OK.
14. If you have finished editing these settings, click Save All.
