Changing the credentials of the SQL Sentry Monitoring Service Account

The Service Configuration Utility is a tool for changing the credentials of Monitoring Service account for the Unified version of SQL Sentry. Once done with all the changes, a message Service Configuration complete will show.

When it comes to changing the credentials for the SQL Sentry Monitoring Service, the proper route to take is to use the Service Configuration Utility. This is a utility that can be found in the SQL Sentry program group on the start menu or in the file path of the machines with the Monitoring Service installed.

• Launch Services and stop the Monitoring Service. Then close the Services window.
• When you launch the Service Configuration utility, the first prompt is where you will enter the new service credentials.
• If switching to GMSA this is also where you will elect this option. The $ does not need to be included in the GMSA username.
  
  
  
  
• The next step will ask for the SQL Sentry repository information.  If you have more than one SQL Sentry connection, you will see the SQL SentryDatabase Connection Management screen. Select the Connect button for the SQL Sentry connection you are updating. However, if you want to point the SQL Sentry Monitoring Service to a new SQL Sentry installation, you can also do that during this step.
  
  
  
  
• If everything completes successfully, you should see a Service configuration complete message on the Service Configuration command prompt window. At this point, you can press any key to close out of the utility as stated.
  
  
• Launch Services and ensure the updated service account is listed under Log On As.
• Start the Monitoring Service.
• Then close the Services window.
